Our New Pets

This week students chose a rock from outside to become their very own pet. We painted them and added googly eyes to create the perfect outdoor week pet. Ask me to share my pet with you, what my pet likes to do, and what is special about them.

Gotta Go Gotta Go

We released our Painted Lady butterflies! We read Gotta Go Gotta Go  by Sam Swope to say our proper good byes to our butterfly friends. In this story a caterpillar takes us through her life cycle and migration to Mexico and while our butterflies were not migrating south, we watched as they anxiously fluttered away from their PK home.

Happy Outdoor Week!

Although today's weather was less than desirable for the start of Outdoor Week, we made the best of it and went out in the rain to search for our new pets. Each student this week will find and create a pet rock to love and take care of all week long. We thought this would be a great way for our students to use their imagination and also integrate some writing. What is your pet's name? What does your pet like? etc.

We also had some tent time as part of our free choice today. Thank you to parents who were able to bring in a pop up tents for us to use. If you have one that you would like to bring in, we would love to have more.

Students compare and contrast the moth and butterfly

Using a pocket Venn diagram chart students were given characteristics to sort so we could compare the moth and butterfly.

Welcoming new friends...

Today students were greeted by new PK B butterfly friends, Cici, Tangled and Cutie. The caterpillars emerged just days ago and we could not be more excited to observe them in their new stage.

Happy Birthday Aanav!

Sipping like butterflies...

For snack, we sipped our juice like butterflies!
Butterflies have a 'straw-like' tongue that unrolls to sip nectar from flowers!

So we used our straws to sip our own 'flower juice'!

Symmetry Discussion

As we continue to discuss the qualities of butterflies,
we have been also discussing how butterflies are symmetrical!
Take a look at some of our butterflies we made and make sure to 'ask me about' how
to make a butterfly using a symmetrical design.
