B is for Buddies!

Austin is our Star of the Week!

Today Austin was able to share his photos with his classmates and talk about some of his favorite things. Did you know that Austin's favorite thing to eat is chicken nuggets? Did you know he has a dog? Did you know that he has been to the beach? Austin also has electric trains. Thank you for sharing today Austin!

Also today our class met with our Second grade buddies! We created a buddy book and played outside on our playground. More pictures of individual Pre-K bees with their buddies to come.

During Free Choice some students enjoyed a B activity, Bubble Art and building bugs!

SOUND BOX for Wednesday & Thursday!

Please be sure to remind your child to find 1 to 5 items that begin with our sound of the week, B. These items should be placed into the ziploc bag we placed in your child's folder. During the morning, each child will have an opportunity to share the items he/she brought in with a small group of classmates. The items are taken back home at the end of the morning/day.

Meeting Mr. Mackenzie

Today students met headmaster, Mr. Mackenzie. He read us a silly story about a little hungry monster who went to school. Mr. Mackenzie also talk us a bit about the vikings by showing us his model viking ship. We also had some very good questions for him. It was a great visit. I think he was impressed with our little bees.

B is for...birthday, brownies, bubbles and bouncy balls

Happy Birthday, Mikey!

Today we introduced our first Sound of the Week...B! We had a birthday celebration with brownies, created blue bubble art, and sorted Mrs. Robeano's bouncy balls. The bubble art was certainly a hit! PreK bees enjoyed blowing blue bubbles to create beautiful artwork.

Later, we asked students to choose two bouncy balls from the group that were similar or the same. Then we asked them to share why they chose the two they did and how they thought the balls were similar. Some students chose two identical bouncy balls and others chose two based on similarities with color or even patterns i.e., swirls, checkers, glitter, etc.

I Like me!

Today we read, I like me by Nancy Carlson. It allowed us to talk about the things we like about ourselves and each other. Later for seat work, we drew ourselves. We were careful to account for all of the things that make us special, hair color, eye color, the shapes of our bodies, our noses, and even the clothes we like to wear.

Meet Mr. Ray!

Today students took a field trip to the dinning hall. We met Mr. Ray and all the important helpers that cook and prepare our meals each day here at Academy. We were able to explore the kitchen, saw all the equipment and tools the chefs use and even took a quick walk into the enormous freezer and pantry. The large dishwasher was also very impressive. Thank you, Mr. Ray for a great visit!

Today was also our first Zero the Hero day! Jakob's mom came in earlier this week to trace our hands and melt crayon shavings. Today we were able to glue together all these pieces to create a great owl sun catcher that was of course in the shape of a zero. We had such a great time learning all about Zero the Hero and singing our hero's song. Thanks again to Jakob's mother for a great first Zero the Hero craft!

Happy Birthday, Justin!

Happy Birthday, Justin!

Happy Birthday, Justin! Today we celebrated Justin's birthday. Justin's mother brought in delicious muffins and read to us the perfect story to go along with our treat, If you Give a Moose a Muffin. Thank you for such a treat!

We also began our character education program, Second Step, today. Students were shown pictures and were asked, "how is this child feeling?", "how do you know the child is angry?", "Have you ever felt this way?", "Is it okay to be sad, angry or even disgusted?". More information was sent home in your child's folder today regarding this program and today's lesson. Throughout the year we will be using this program to explore polite and kind ways to solve problems with friends, initiate play, read and understand each others' feelings and develop empathy.
